报告摘要:
West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus typically transmitted between birds and mosquitoes, and can also infect humans and other domestic mammals. It has become a public health threat since 1999 in North America. Like other mosquito-borne diseases such as Malaria and Dengue, the transmission and dynamics of the West Nile virus infection can be very complicated due to climate and environmental impact on vector mosquito abundance, seasonal impact on amplification host birds and biting incidences of the vector. In this talk, I will present our research on forecasting mosquito abundance and geographical distribution using both statistical and mathematical models, and investigating the dynamics of the virus infection and spread using transmission models. I will also describe our work on integrating surveillance data, weather and landscape data with our models for weekly real-time forecasting of Culex mosquito abundance and minimum infection rate (MIR), for the purpose of risk assessment of human infection of West Nile virus in Great Toronto Area.
